One of my favorite advertising rejections I’ve heard in the past year came from a small, local businessman who said that there was no money available for something as “trivial” as advertising. In an economic recession money may be tight, but the need to advertise is more important than ever before. Businesses large and small are pulling their advertising money to help cover their budget losses, but now is the time to expand your advertising!
The competition between advertisers has dropped greatly. We’ve all seen how there are fewer car commercials on T.V. right now, you probably have noticed that advertising in newspapers has dropped drastically, and if you are interested in advertising, you should have noticed that advertising mediums are dropping their prices like never before in an attempt to keep their budgets on track. Having worked in the radio industry, I have seen first hand how desperate everyone is to sell ads at low costs, and people who are using an advertising agency are getting the best deals because their agency knows how to work the system. NOW is the time to advertise and to try NEW advertising that you may have never considered!
Use a form of video advertising for the web (G & W calls it InterACT) that shows potential clients, customers, educators, etc. what makes you stand apart from the competition. Maybe you need a new company logo or promotional product to hand out; these items are quick, easy, and inexpensive ways to advertise YOU! Advertising doesn’t have to be time consuming or costly, you just need a way to get your name out there.
In this chaotic time, don’t be left behind your competition because you think advertising is “trivial”. Go above everyone around you and let your name be known. When the economy finally does rebound, they will be scrounging for people to walk through their doors while you will be sitting back and enjoying what advertising has done for you!
